Bloom for Bees

Bloom for Bees is an initiative launched in February 2022 by Fulwood Community Nature Reserve. Help us make Fulwood really Bloom for Bees, Butterflies, Birds, Moths, Hoverflies and other wildlife.

Insects are such a valuable part of nature’s ecosystem. They pollinate many plants and crops. They also provide food for many other wildlife like our local birds, amphibians, and mammals. And what those insects need? They need a pollinator-friendly plant. A Bloom for Bees. Plant one of these plants and you can make a big difference.

How to Bloom for Bees

1. Pick Some Blooms

Use our Blooms for Bees list for bloom ideas. We have a list of Bloom ideas for Bees, Butterflies, Moths, Birds, and Hoverflies. This list is not extensive, nor is it expert. Our Bloom list (below) is inspired by lists from Butterfly Conservation, Bumblebee Conservation Trust, and RHS (for extensive expert lists, see the Plants for Pollinator list by the RHS). Once you find a bloom you like, you can purchase your seeds or plants.

2. Grow Along

If you choose seeds, start growing. Follow @FulwoodCNR on Facebook to find tips and other residents taking part. Share your growing photos with us 🙂

3. Grow a Spare Bloom

If you can, try to grow a spare a bloom to share with a neighbour. Or, let us know if you can grow a few extra Blooms for a local place such as a care home, school, library.

4. Watch Fulwood Bloom!

Plant your Blooms in your garden or plot. Look around for Fulwood blooms, bees, and butterflies.
